The Appalachian Hardwood Center (ahc.caf.wvu.edu), in cooperation with the WV Division of Energy (www.energywv.org) the U.S. Department of Energy’s-Southeastern Biomass State and Regional Cooperative hosted a educational conference on the opportunities for WV develop successful biomass related projects around its forest resource. TFG participated in the 2009 BTUs From the Forest Conference, September 22-23 2009 at the Waterfront Place in Morganton, West Virginia. Ms. Kaarsten Turner Dalby was a speaker addressing The Forestland Group’s position in the WV biomass space. An introductory conference BTUs From the Forest was held during the summer of 2005. Approximately 100 attendees were presented with information on West Virginia’s wood resource, forest products markets, and case studies from those who have successfully used wood as an energy source. The hope was to expand upon the original conference by attracting more alternative energy project developers and wood products industry representatives to a central forum. Invited speakers covered topics ranging from the wood products supply chain and wood residue produced, to the barriers that may need to be addressed. The conference all covered carbon and how it relates to the management of West Virginia’s forest resource.
